Aspirin is mainly used for pain relief, but not much in middle-class Malaysians where they depend much on familiar brand of painkillers such as Panadol. However, aspirin doesn’t only function as pain killers.
Americans has since long practise consuming baby aspirin daily. This is because when taken daily in low dose (lower than the dose needed to relieve pain), aspirin actually triggers a protective effect against heart attacks and other cardiovascular events.
Recent studies also show that daily consumption of low dose aspirin can also reduce the risk of colon cancer. One study even concluded that daily consumption of aspirin for five years or more will approximately be 30 % less likely to have colon cancer over the next 20 years.
Anyway, low dose here means 75 mg (which seems to have same effectiveness as the higher dose 500mg) in lowering the risk of colon cancer.
